“Ghost Calligraphy” was an electroacoustic improvisation performed on May 11, 12, 19, and 20, 2023, that explores the spectropoetics of unmarked graves of Chinese migrant workers who lived in Santa Cruz. The performance is done through a calligraphic transcription of the Lord’s Prayer in Chinese on rice paper, whose sounds are transduced by a table equipped with a piezoelectric microphone. It is a meditation on the lost bodies and their connection to the larger context of US expansion in California in the 19th century.
