Early dubstep was a true revelation for me. I had always been into d&b and was loving idm and downtempo at the time. The deep – almost massaging – subbasses of Pinch and Mala touched something deeper than the hypnotic effects of syncopated dance music.
Unfortunately the awe was not long lived as bro step and later riddim took over the scene.
Lately UK dubstep has made a come-back but the emphasis seems to be on catchy drops and party-moods, just like jump-up d&b “wins” over tech-step, jungle, or liquid.
I'm a fan of darker and moodier dubstep so I figured it may be good to display some of that music and move against the grain with that.
It also allows for some creative mixing with dub fx and mash-ups.
I hope you all enjoy this mood, that to me is very fitted for this time of year.
