Hype Raps

Straight up, Hype Raps is an ode to an era where moving the dance floor was king.

In the late 80’s through early 90’s, a mixture of diverse sounds dictated the nightlife & hip-hop as a genre didn’t shy away from finding influence within these various styles. Whether artists were inspired from trends of the time (James Brown samples, New Jack Swing, UK dance scene, Soulful House, etc.) or created a sound all their own, keeping things uptempo was a must.

Many of these dance-focused tracks could be found as album cuts, b-sides, or remixes - with the occasional lead single getting heavy rotation as well.

In the same vein as his Dance Raps mixtape, Jerry Nice taps into another distinct moment in hip-hop, this time teaming up with The Dusty Handclap to pay homage to the artists & tracks that kept the masses hype during peak hours. The songs within this mix reflect those that never left his “play crate,” acting as the backbone & main source of inspiration for this project.
