Most of the time, a dj knows exactly what he's doing. The pitch, cueing, and direction of the mix is usually premeditated. Of course the artist has his own technique and style to manipulate the tracks such that it becomes practically a different sound (preferably better than original). However, sometimes we get damn lucky when we layer two distinct tracks and the result is a solid transition, almost as if it was destiny for these two tracks to melt together. This initial luck gives me the motivation to build and keep moving forward until the set is complete (this is true for any musician that experiments with their respective instrument). I would say 'Master Yeti' is the best example. This set is recognized as a favorite because transitions are smooth and unique with plenty of variety.
