Rise

Recorded live on 4/25/20 as part of the “Shelter in Place with DJ C” series, “Rise” is not about leavening or even levity, but it's about levitation of spirit. This is something that dancing can provide, but there's extra alchemy when melody, harmony, and composition combine with rhythm in uplifting ways. Uplift is subjective though. For me, the recipe calls for enough melancholy to help point toward optimism. As Picasso once said, “art is a lie that makes us realize truth.”
