It's been a bumpy year for me as it has for so many of us. Lots of ups, lots of downs. Growth through it all. I've battled with depression for the past several months. A familiar enemy. This is a collection of music that I found voice in. Dark and moody mostly but never without hope. I hope you find something in it that speaks to you.
The name of the mix is a reference to the idea of the dark night of the soul that we face from time to time. It is a time in one's life where we face painful questioning of the realities in our lives, struggle with our place in the world, and ultimately grow through it to a better version of self. It seems I've faced many of them in sleepless nights recently, thus the plurality in the name. It is my understanding that this concept comes from the poem La Noche Oscura written by San Juan de la Cruz in the 1500s.
