For the first edition of SUBdivision I put together a mix that exemplifies the core concept of the event: the interconnection of bass genres. For the second edition I wanted to do the opposite: zoom in on a particular sub genre, liquid d&b in this instance. In general, I don’t like mixes that simply build up to one or more climax points (y = ax + b), stay on roughly the same level (y = b), or mixes with great individual tunes, but less attention to structure, track order or combinations in time and frequency domain. Over the course of two months I worked really, REALLY hard to construct a compelling narrative that is true to the idiom of liquid d&b. Although I notice my focus dropped at a certain point in the recording session, I could do 10 more takes and most likely find something else to fret about every single time. So to protect my sanity (mental issues notwithstanding) I am just going to share this one. :) Please enjoy, share and comment!
