2023 has definitely seen a resurgence of bass-driven Garage and Speed Garage tracks with their skipping, shuffling percussion lines and rolling basslines and that is more than fine with me. While I love House and I love pianos and uplifting vocals and all the rest of it, nothing quite compares to standing in front of a speaker stack and having your rib-cage rearranged by a bowel-loosening Speed Garage bassline. My last 'new music' mix of the year pulls on some of these recent releases from absolute dons like Moppa & Dekka, BK298, Rico Tubs as well as WZA who moonlights as the boss of Defected Records.
