Sam Hay is a barrister who worked with detainees on Nauru and at Maribyrnong Detention Centre. Hay first became involved in asylum seeker issues in 2001 because he was working with Julian Burnside, who represented asylum seekers in the Tampa litigation. As a barrister, he has represented asylum seekers who had been in detention for years and feared persecution if sent back to their home country. Hay continues to work as a barrister.
