Following January's excellent guest set from Stuart of NICETRAXUK comes the first installment of the year from me, and with it a reflective mood. Inevitably when doing something for a protracted period of time it can start to feel like a habit, and while music is one I'd never wish to kick, it all comes back to one question "why do you do this?" I'm prompted to ask this of myself having seen two other shows I enjoyed finish recently (Leigh Morgan's Urban torque and Doc Scott's Future Beats radio show), and at it's heart that answer has to be "self fulfillment". That said, this session has found me with a renewed vigour for the music, having delved into the past for some truly special tracks, Shadows by Nick Holder, and Soul Searching 3 by Rasoul, both long overdue a spot on this show. Also the first track to be played on two shows, Evans Above by Dubble D, was on Stuart's mix, it blew me away and had to get another spin here. Be sure to support it when it comes out later in the month.

I think my primary motivation to showcase lesser known artists that often get overlooked by many.
The cut that you have picked from the rasoul ep is definitely my fave from that release, one of the few vinyls that is truly a pleasure to spin, even after nearly 20 years .... large does what it says on the can 👌🏼Finding the Beautiful Track at slot 5 a nicely pitched number with really snappy and clever sample use of a very Janet Jackson sounding lyric, not sure the origins on this snippet to be fair, so won't even begin to speculate on that one 😜
Big fan of Opolopo since I picked up the Remixes of Shea Soul and really like what has been done with the (somewhat overplayed but still solid) original mix of missing you, Terri has undeniably distinctive and rich timbre to her voice which sets off nicely against the percussive backdrop here !
The flow of the mix is nicely considered, unfolding gradually yet consistently and through great key matches and transitions, develops a great shape from tip to toe.
Evans Above track is stellar and in good company here with a plethora of tracks with melodic presence and real tribal nuance in the percussion, especially cohesive from 8 through 15. Zepherin Saint has been well represented on HHA and has such a standout feel to it, had that tagged for my next output but the early bird has sincerely for their first this time 🙂. A Well packaged production that tails off nicely in to a well placed mood shift from the ever reliable Koze.
This new mix is excellent, a fantastic selection of quality tunes - keep it coming!

Deep Transmissions...i was saving Transmission#75 - Straylight for a bootyful day and that day was today...so headphones on and took a journey outside where there the white Fluffy clouds that past over me...with such sounds that fitted perfectly...we become what we think about...peace

Outstanding set Dave...agree, Soul Searching is a special track...loved Little Universe...I have a soft spot for vocals, especially male vocals that have a very particular...but please don't ask me to describe/explain it cuz I'm not sure I can...it's just a certain quality to certain male vocals that I love...tbh, I have a whole playlist called male vocals...one day i may do mix with male vocalsonly, just so i can drool the whole time lol...also, One Sound very yummy...loved the power in Infinidad, it had me thinking whoooo hooo as I listened...lovely transition from it to Straylight...and yes, it is a stunning track...and last but not least, DJ Koze...never heard a bad tune from the man!!! Thanks for sharing, was just what I needed to hear :))))
Thanks so much for taking the time Deborah, we do recognise you have a choice of airlines. This one came together really naturally, there were a couple of older tracks like Shadows and Soul Searching 3 which I really wanted to include in a mix and also the Opolopo remix of the classic Terri Walker Missing You. They tied in nicely with the newer releases by DuBeats and Iz & Diz and that deep juju from Zepherin Saint (MJ Cole anyone?) and All I See. Wanted to keep the mood rising steadily rather than dropping and building it back up and so Solee and Dave DK provided the perfect weaponry for the lead out. Glad you enjoyed listening to it because I really enjoyed doing it! x
