26 years after the fire that ended Piccadilly Theatre’s story as one of Beirut’s most iconic stages, deejwl returned to its stage with a DJ set.

Opened in 1966, Piccadilly became an important part of Beirut’s cultural life and golden era, bringing together music, theatre and performance for generations.

After the years of war, the theatre reopened but never returned to its former life. In 2000, while work was being done on the décor for a new production, a cigarette was reportedly left near cans of thinner. On 19 August 2000, the theatre went up in flames.

What remained was left almost frozen in time.

26 years later, on the exact same date, deejwl stepped inside and performed on the same stage.

Coming from abroad, he wanted to use his music to bring attention to places in Lebanon that carry a story.

This set is his way of creating a new memory for Piccadilly and bringing sound back to a stage silent for 26 years.
