Update 2 0f 2
by Dead, Jail, or Rock And Roll
Okay: Radio Free Jackson has gone away for now. Not a problem.
I am forever grateful to Rex Mcallister for loaning me space on his platform. I know that DJRR received a LOT of exposure that it would not have gotten otherwise. And when Rex is up and running again, I'll be right here.
So, suffice it to say that the training wheels have been removed. Dead, Jail, or Rock and Roll moves on its own. And with that, I am poised to launch a semi-aggressive promo campaign going into the new year. But I need to tie up all loose ends.
First up on the agenda: Uploading every episode to our Mixcloud host. We are almost there already. I may have about ten more to go.
Second: Complete a thorough list of every song ever played. This sounds tedious, but I need to stay aware of all tracks in order to fulfill my commitment of never playing the same song twice. A lot of good songs can get buried under there weight of content, so that leads to the next evolution in this mission, which I will explain in step #4.
Third: A Mission statement! Yes. There has to be purpose in what we are doing or it will never last. Listeners and fans need to feel they are a part of something and not just scratching some carnal itch. I truly believe that this show is a force for good.
The mission statement centers on three key tenants:
#1: Rock and Roll is alive and well. Period. And we will demonstrate this in two ways:
A. Digging out and exposing new bad ass rock and roll. There are some great bands who are working their asses off to provide an authentic rock and roll experience to the world: Joyous Wolf, The Black Moods, Dirty Honey, and The New Division just to name a few.
B. Plenty of old-timers are still at it, bringing along some hefty and amazing catalogs: Johnny Marr, The Dictators, Ginger Wildheart, Collective Soul, Soul Asylum... You get the picture.
#2: We throw away more music than we retain. Many of us grew up in a time when radio and MTV did a pretty good job at curating what we wanted to hear. Those days are long gone. But in that time, how many albums can you think of that you know only one or two songs from? There is a WEALTH of untapped rock and roll lying dormant at the bottom of this cultural heap. It's time to repurpose and enjoy it.
#3: Educate AND LEARN FROM the youth. I have recently found myself surrounded by young people that are STARVING formthis very thing. They know society is feeding them trash, and they are sick of it. This is our burden to bare. And they're not stupid! Many of them have very impressive palettes. I think they are worth acknowledging.
Four: Live broadcasting! Every Friday and Saturday night, groovy people are getting together at someone's house. Broadcasting live would not only give them a curated party playlist, but they can participate! This show is under no FCC regulations. We can get as creatively raunchy as we want.... should it go that way. But it would be so much fun to have call-ins and requests. The rule of never duplicating songs does not apply here.
Last of all, I want to do some fun things to promote the show. It's going to require a little bit of capital. Some of you have contributed. Thank you! And for anyone else who would like to donate, There is a "Tip" button on the Mixcloud desktop, but I have also set up Buy me A Coffee account: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/djrr
The plan is to make more stickers, and cassette tapes of the show (yes: cassettes), and distribute them in record stores. I have already obtained permission by a few. And basically, create some goofy flyers, and just get out and talk to people!
So, who's in? Good idea, ya think? Well... I can't explain it much more than that, other than it is an itch that must be scratched. Would you help me? To the left.... lower... little lower.... YEEEEEEAH. THAT'S IT.
Holler at me. Let me hear your thoughts!
I love you all.
