Joyful Humility

Philippians 1:27-2:18 "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." 
What we will be looking at on Sunday is one of the preeminent passages in all of sacred scripture. In ancient culture, humility was not seen as a virtue but a sign of weakness. Humility was reserved the good behavior of a good slave, not meant for kings, noblemen, and noblewomen. When Paul exhorts the Philippian church to "consider others better than themselves" he does so based on the example of Christ who "emptied" himself and became like a servant. All of us, every single one of us, need to revisit the actions of Christ when it comes to our own humility, our own church unity, and our own joy. What i
