What I love about Mixcloud is that they pay the artists I play, and they clear the music rights so I can play new and emerging artists and old favorites. With a subscription, you can download and listen to the file anytime, much like a podcast. When I worked at NPR, I'd get permission to play the music on All Songs Considered, and NPR had deals with labels for clearances as well. But now, as an independent broadcaster, Mixcloud allows me to play the music I love, and you can download it for $2.99 a month. I do get a small part of that to offset the cost of maintaining the channel.
