Rohan Rakhit wants you to check out these radio stations and presenters

Worldwide FM and Daytimers resident Rohan Rakhit shouts out his favourite creators, powered by our recommendation feature, Spotlights.

Rohan Rakhit

If you want to show some love to DJs and radio stations you feel deserve more recognition, we’ve released a feature called Spotlights. It allows you to highlight the creators you follow and share them on your profile. You can select up to 10 profiles via your For You Page and even leave a personalised note about why you’re into them. Your ringing endorsement then reaches your followers, allowing them to discover new mixes and creators while helping your favourites gain more exposure. We’re excited to dig into your recommendations!

Londoner Rohan Rakhit is one of the best curators of sound out there. From his home, he beams out ‘First Light,’ his weekly radio show on Worldwide FM where he educates the masses on a range of musical eras. With the help of guests such as Adrian Younge, Sarathy Korwar and Emma Warren, he traces sounds as far reaching as House, Broken Beat and Jazz. Meanwhile, you can see him rolling with the Daytimers crew for regular live sets spanning club music with a South Asian twist. We asked Rohan Rakhit to share her top three Spotlights, read on for her selections.

Robert Luis

Based in Brighton, Robert Luis is the Founder, Lead A&R and co-owner of Tru Thoughts, an independent record label that releases music from everyone from Tara Lily to Flowdan. At the core of everything new and fresh in underground music, the label doesn’t see genre, instead pushing out incredible music of all tones. As well as his day to day duties, Luis also hosts a weekly radio show on the label’s official Mixcloud profile. It’s called ‘Unfold Radio’ and digs deeper into Luis’ musical philosophy; a space where Rap meets Drum & Bass, where Jazz mingles with Latin sensibilities. “Robert has such impeccable taste,” Rohan Rakhit says. “I discover so much amazing new music through ‘Unfold Radio.’ So definitely go check that out.

Ross Allen

Ross Allen is your favourite radio host’s radio host. Fronting ‘The Meltdown’ weekly on Soho Radio as well as a fortnightly showover at NTS, Ross approaches music with unequivocal enthusiasm. Unrestricted and boundless, his shows are odes to the genreless paths he treads, telling all kinds of stories in the process. “Ross Allen does a fantastic show on Soho Radio, bringing through some amazing guests who have upcoming releases in conversation with him,” Rohan Rakhit shares. “You hear a lot of exclusives as well. He’s super, super clued in.”

Sister Midnight

Nestled in Lewisham, South East London, Sister Midnight serves many functions. The radio station is part of the wider Sister Midnight creative network that also includes a music venue. In its time, the platform has empowered generations of creatives to find their passions. Whether through being a radio host or taking part in creative focus groups and workshops, you’re allowed to be free and as imaginative as possible. Meanwhile, the radio station itself has welcomed the likes of FAUZIA, Maxwell Owin, Hipsters Don’t Dance and its own long list of residents.

“Sister Midnight boasts such an incredible roster of artists, DJs, performers, activists and local action groups,” Rohan Rakhit says. “The radio station is much more than just its musical programming. It’s really educational, but with fantastic tunes as well. If you don’t know about the Sister Midnight project, definitely go read more about it and get involved as a shareholder and have your say in Lewisham’s first community owned music venue.”
