From London Town to Route 40, Ohio: What The Mixcloud Staff Loved In August 2025

Our team shares what they’ve been listening to in August, including high energy Footwork, Garage, Trucker Country and Coldwave.

We’re well into the festival season here in the northern hemisphere. With frenetic energy running at an all time high, it’s important to remind ourselves of that end-of-summer impulse to take stock and savor the fruits of the season.

Our mobile developer Julian has a great choice for some “downtime in the garden” and our wonderful head of HR Becca chooses a mix that is “perfect for end of day & cooking in the kitchen.” Meanwhile, more exploratory picks like Ricky’s journey to “foggy East Berlin” and Laurie’s dive into Ohio Trucker Country, reminds us how late summer becomes a time for musical wandering.

Resonance Extra: Connections to Sound 19th June

Kayla Painter’s Connections to Sound series on Resonance Extra journeys through Downtempo, Electronic, Ambient and beat-driven music and features artists from all around the world. Julian “really enjoyed this when taking some downtime in the garden and everyone else was out. Good when you just want to listen and recharge.”

Lord Brett Headset: Dreamticket #28

Becca calls this “perfect for end of day & cooking in the kitchen” and she’s not wrong. Lord Brett Headset’s hour-long mixes are a soulful combination of contemporary and classical selections which have gained him a great following of committed fans ever present in his comments.

Boogaloo Radio: Jack & Lewis NYC Special 13/5/25

The raucous, guitar-packed weekly show presented by Jack Young and Lewis Evans (Black Country, New Road wind department) on Boogaloo Radio features games, airhorns and paeans to Dick and Dom. There’s a Chuckle Brothers voice sample which has been beloved by Calum in our Support team. He picked this special episode because it was recorded while the band was in New York, featuring a track selection from each of the band members and road crew.

Yesterday’s Wine: Yesterday’s Wine Classic Trucker Songs Special on WCRS FM

DJ Ope Dokey’s all vinyl hour of trucker classics is enough to keep you truckin’ throughout the day! Our product manager Laurie discovered Ohio-based WCRS FM recently and chose this Yesterday’s Wine show because it’s a collection of her favorite sub-genres of Country; Trucker Country!

Mint Pillow: Release Me

On the odd occasion I check out our mentions on our Instagram page, I discover genre-blending gems like this. Sporadic Drum and Bass, Electropop, Techno and more are mixed together brilliantly by Mint Pillow. How refreshing. A little bit of Sampha, a little bit of disco. What’s not to love?

Voices Radio: 160 Unity w/Seb Jana Rush and Big Dope P

Joe who works in our Brand Partnerships team has the final verdict on this banger on Voices Radio. “Seb is driving London’s footwork scene forward with his seminal club night 160 Unity, hosting legends such as RP Boo & DJ Spinn, alongside local stars such as Sherelle,” he says. “His show always features the best guests, such as this recent show featuring Chicago’s Jana Rush. Energy crew tune in!”

KINDRED: Paleman

A lover of all things 140, our Marketing Manager Caroline breaks down Paleman’s recent showing on KINDRED. “Paleman was one of my favourite producers/DJs when I was clubbing in the 2010s at places like Dance Tunnel and The Nest,” she reminisces. “He’s back producing music after a long creative hiatus, and passes by for a set at KINDRED, which I think is one of the most exciting radio stations building grassroots community right now in London. The entire program for that evening of radio was incredible!”

Bob Conjones: Trench Noir Sample 1

Proud Regal Disco resident and regular onefiveeight contributor Bob Conjones has got a mix full of “face-melting bass” for you. Neil, one of our talented frontend developers, picked this “delightfully heavy Garage mix”.

NTS Radio: BBM w/ Jim Legxacy – 1st November 2024

Our graphic designer Sally has had Jim’s Legxacy’s new album Black British Music “on repeat” since it dropped last month. She advises that we “dive into his reference archive with an old BBM show on NTS featuring the cheekiest vibe change from Skepta, Chip and Young Adz’s track ‘Mains’ into Daniel Beddingfield’s ‘If You’re Not The One’ (about 28 min in). Enjoy!

Lower Grand Radio: Dance Decay w/ DJ Rodchenko

Ricky, our Product Designer, has a new favourite radio show discovery in Dance Decay, on Oakland-based Lower Grand Radio. “It starts with some moody Cold Wave that transported me to a foggy East Berlin back alley in ’79,” he says. “Which made a change from the 21st century London humidity!”
