We often define forgiveness in terms of forgetfulness. In fact, many people say that we haven’t truly forgiven someone for what they’ve done unless we forget what they originally did wrong. Unfortunately, it is impossible to forget unless we truly forgive. What’s worse, there are many who don’t know what it really means to forgive someone.
Almost 2000 years ago the apostle Paul wrote a personal letter to a fellow believer, asking him to forgive a former slave who ran away. As we examine this letter over the course of the next few weeks, we will see not only see the necessity of forgiveness, but the cost of forgiveness. It is my prayer that as we do so, we will learn to appreciate the forgiveness extended by our Heavenly Father, and in turn learn to forgive those who have hurt us.
