Senators grill OPM nominee over data hack

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's nominee to head the Office of Personnel Management isn't confirmed yet, but she's already facing scrutiny from Congress over the agency's massive data breach last year.
Beth Cobert promised to strengthen the agency's cybersecurity and information technology systems at her Senate confirmation hearing Thursday. Senators at the hearing said the agency must improve the way it protects sensitive data.
Cobert would succeed Katherine Archuleta, who resigned in July after hackers stole highly sensitive data belonging to millions of people. Cobert is the acting director now.
Across the Capitol, a House panel is subpoenaing Cobert over documents related to the data breach.
Separately, Louisiana Sen. David Vitter has threatened to hold up Cobert's nomination over issues related to the health care law.
