A little mix to reflect upon my experience as a York University graduate student having spent my reading week at the Las Nubes Ecocampus in Costa Rica studying EcoHealth, and then returning to Toronto to face a labour disruption resulting from the injustice in the University administration being confronted by CUPE3903 in the interest of teachers and students alike.
The mix features music that deals with themes of travel, globalization, activism and social justice, as well as some of my favourite contemporary Latin-American music which echoes messages of environmentalism and intentions of revitalizing the Indigenous cultures that have been pushed to the edge of erasure by colonization.
The mix was recorded live, following a beautiful performance by Costa Rican folk singer Guadalupe Urbina, and preceding an address from a member of the CUPE3903 bargaining team at a fundraiser event for Las Nubes which was held at the Lula Lounge during the first week of the strike.
FIGHT THE POWER!
