WHERE'S THE MOUSE?

A doctor made it his regular habit to stop off at a bar for a hazelnut daiquiri on his way home. The bartender knew the doctor's habit and would always have a drink waiting. But one day the bartender ran out of hazelnut extract, so he substituted hickory nuts. When the doctor arrived, he took a sip and exclaimed, "This isn't a hazelnut daiquiri!" "No, I'm sorry," the bartender replied. "It's a hickory daiquiri, doc."

What’s so funny about this? This is a sort of shaggy dog story, albeit on the short side, so it’s not too shaggy. Nevertheless, it qualifies because of the longish set up for a silly pun which paraphrases a nursery rhyme. Before we get to the rhyme, let’s make sure you understand the set-up. Doctors are not generally known to be big drinkers because they keep long hours and have to be alert in emergencies.
