What’s so funny about this? This joke might work visually as well as aurally. Both ways will leave you slightly confused. But first, what is a pterodactyl? To be accurate, their scientific name is Pterosaur which means flying lizard. It comes from a combination of “pteron” meaning wing and “dactulos”, meaning finger. In the Greek alphabet the word was spelled beginning with P & T. They were the first step in the evolutionary change whereby dinosaurs eventually morphed into birds. Pterodactyl is what journalists have come to call them. They had hollow bones like birds and of course they had wings and could fly. If you only hear the word then you may not even realize that it begins with the letter P and you’ll get a little bit of a shock when you see it spelled out.
