What’s so funny about this? I haven’t decided if this joke works better written or spoken. I first heard it as part of a monologue of quick one-liners, so I had to listen carefully. If the comic telling the joke uses the right intonation, it works great. If not it could be a disaster. If you’re only reading this joke then it will depend on you putting the right inflection in your mind as you read. The entire joke hinges on the homophones, disgust, d-i-s-g-u-s-t, and discussed, d-i-s-c-u-s-s-e-d. The former refers to something that makes you feel ill. The latter is the past tense of the verb to discuss, or talk about. The wife is basically telling her husband that she’s sick of him. Meanwhile the guy is either drunk, stupid or both. He decides to assume she was merely confirming that she understood that he and his pal were discussing or talking about her. If told properly, a wife’s attitude towards her husband’s hanging out in a bar is undisguisable as disgust. However leave it to the p
