TIME OUT
I can’t believe I got fired from my job at the calendar factory. All I did was take a day off.
What’s so funny about this? I was just looking at the colors in the cartoon for this joke. They seem dark and foreboding. A soot-filled, smoky sky at dusk. The factory looks like it’s a steel mill or an iron forge. It doesn’t really look like a factory which makes paper calendars. Usually calendars are bright and cheery or funny or pretty. Something to decorate your wall with as you note the passing of days and maybe write some memos on. Of course, when you stop to think about it, calendars are made of paper and plastic, two items that at the manufacturing stage are highly polluting. I went to college at Penn State in the geographical center of the state of Pennsylvania and the middle of nowhere. When I left the school to go home I’d always go in an easterly direction, but every once in a while I’d have to go west towards Altoona. When I did we would pass through a little town known as Tyron
