What’s so funny about this? This was posted on a sign outside of a church. Unfortunately, I don’t have a photograph of the sign, but I when I read it, I was determined to post it. As you know, I’m willing to make fun of anybody or any situation, even some of the more sensitive issues, such as religion, politics, sports, all the stuff people are passionate about. In the case of this photograph or the original sign, the intention of the priest speaking or writing in the name of the church, is to be helpful. But that’s why word choice and word order are so important in English - to avoid confusion. Of course, if everyone spoke or wrote perfect English, I’d be out of business. But I’m not worried because native speakers make as many errors as English learners. So in this situation we have a man with a very nervous look on his face talking or confessing to a priest.
