PROOF THAT TIME CHANGES EVERYTHING
Mustard gas killed thousands in WW I, now it’s something you get after eating in a deli.
What’s so funny about this? This joke is funny because of the weird juxtaposition of time and words. A “juxtaposition” is the fact of two things or concepts being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect. Note that the title of the joke is about how everything changes with time. Admittedly there are many ways to demonstrate or illustrate this. Rust is a great example, or oxidation. It would be cool to see a photo of the Statue of Liberty when it was first erected at the end of the 19th century. There are photos, of course, but not in color. If there were colored photos, the statue would not be green. It would appear more metallic, but with time and oxidation the copper in it turned green and that’s what she looks like today. And of course there are always baby pictures compared to the same person 60 or 70 years later. We get the same effect from seeing child stars in the movies and
