OH YEAH?

What’s so funny about this? If you follow American politics then you know that presidents like to declare war on many things. There is, of course, actual war, that is, sending the US military to fight the military of another nation. We’re all too familiar with that. But the word “war” can be used metaphorically to mean an intense effort to do something. For example, back in the 80’s we had the War on Drugs where an intense effort was made to stop drugs from coming into the US and also to arrest anyone holding even a small amount of drugs. Of course, we know how well that succeeded. Then we had the War on Cancer when the president declared that a cure will be found within five years. Many cities have declared a War on Crime, arresting and jailing as many criminals whether they were selling hot dogs on the street or committing murder.
