NAP TIME
What’s so funny about this? When I was 5 years old, my parents enrolled me in Kindergarten in Connecticut. I had only been in the US for a few months and didn’t really speak English. The funny thing is, I don’t remember language being a problem, but Nap Time was definitely a problem. I’d never heard of such a thing. I’m sure I must have taken naps as an infant and a toddler but not at a specific, organized time. The kindergarten had all the kids lie down at 10:30 in the morning or so, for a half hour. I think it was mostly so the teacher could have a break. I certainly wasn’t tired or sleepy. I remember being forced to lie on a blanket in a darkened room, along with all the other kids. I did not like it. I don’t believe the other kids did either. BTW there was no such thing as hyper-activity and all the other syndromes that have since sprung into existence. However, I concede that now I am a few years older and I do take the occasional nap but when I’ve a mind to, not when I’m ordered
