What’s so funny about this? This joke will have very different meanings to you depending on your age, especially when we get to the punch line. If you are into the pop music of the 1980 and 90’s, you might well have heard of and even love a British singer named Adam Ant. He has nothing whatsoever to do with this joke other than his name being the same as the punch line. If you are as old as I am or if you are a “millennial”, someone who has come of age after 2000, then you probably never heard of or cared anything about him. In that case don’t worry about it and enjoy the joke for what it is. So, we begin with a student asking her teacher, what the word “adamant” means (note the pronunciation). Looking at the cartoon, it appears that at first the teacher is stumped but then he appears to remember. He informs her and us via the second panel in the cartoon that adam ant was the first insect in the Garden of Eden. This kind of makes sense, because Adam is the name of the first human bein
