IMMOBILIZED

What’s so funny about this? Well, the title I gave this joke is a pun in itself. In the cartoon we see a patient who is bed-ridden, meaning he can’t leave it. He’s stuck there with an IV (intra venous) drip in his arm. Because he can’t move, we can say that he is relatively immobilized. But according to hospital regulations, he’s not allowed to have a cell phone in his room either. In the US, or at least in the northeast, the term “cell phone” is still more popular that “mobile phone”. In Europe, I believe “mobile” is the preferred word. It may be a more accurate term and is gaining in popularity, but for some reason “cell phone” is easier to say even though the meaning is more technological and hence, obtuse. Since the guy is without his mobile phone, I’m saying that he is im-mobilized. But as to the actual joke, the guy is complaining to the doctor that he has a ringing in his ear.
