What’s so funny about this? On face value, there is nothing funny about this. And yet I chuckled. This kind of “dark humor” is found after catastrophes like deaths, accidents, explosions. It’s are designed to ease the pain and let off some steam. It’s an important function of humor. Those hearing or reading the joke or looking at the photo can all be relieved that it’s not them. I also had to find a benign or neutral photo. I couldn’t very well show an actual amputee or some other horribly mangled accident victim. You’ll notice that these kind of jokes are usually found in cartoons rather than realistic photos. So what’s the problem? Someone complaining about not feeling their legs is a common complaint after an amputation. We hear it all the time in movies and on TV.
