What’s so funny about this? This joke could be funny or not. It all depends on your perspective, or point of view. World War I was supposed to be “the war to end all wars.” But obviously, it wasn’t. War is still very much with us and the weapons used in these wars are getting worse and worse. Nothing funny about any of this. There seems to be no limit on cruelty humans can inflict on each other, especially during war time. The photo I used for this joke seems almost quaint and unbelievably naive. Gas and chemical warfare were in their infancy in the early 20th century. Nowadays the strength and effectiveness of such weapons staggers the mind. Even though they were outlawed after World War I, that didn’t stop them from being “improved”, i.e. made more deadly, as well as used in actual combat by many countries, such as Iraq and more recently Syria.
