What’s so funny about this? On the surface this might appear to be good advice, but it all depends on your goals. If the idea is to avoid work at all costs, this is the perfect strategy. Go out there and act like your all “gung-ho”, or excited about winning. You do this to create an impression that you’re a serious contender. Then when the race begins you can fall back and take all the time you’ll need. You’ll arrive at the finish line, nice and rested. You just won’t win the race, but that’s not everyone’s goal. As I consider this advice, it occurs to me that in a long horse race or perhaps even a human marathon race, it might be a viable strategy. The idea is to pace yourself, don’t run up to the front of the pack right away. Stay back, relax, establish a comfortable pace for yourself and stick with it regardless of how many people pass you.
