What’s so funny about this? The first thing you might notice with this joke is that it’s not the same as the dialog in the cartoon. They are close enough that I thought I’d use both. I hope you don’t mind. They both convey the same, slightly subtle idea making you stop and think for a second before you get the joke. This kind of humor is called a parposdokian, a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently humorous. Skydiving is very popular and we see people doing it all the time alone, in pairs, large groups, etc. It appears to be relatively safe as long as your parachute opens. That doesn’t mean it’s not scary. So it shouldn’t be surprising that someone expresses a desire to try skydiving. It’s probably on the bucket list of a lot of guys and I’m sure almost as many women.
