1ST sanitation worker: What, you think your garbage doesn’t stink?
2nd sanitation worker: I hope one day you regain the use of your hands.

What’s so funny about this? If English were a simpler language, there wouldn’t be so many double meanings nor multiple words with the same meaning. We have the French Norman invasion of England in 1066 to thank for the latter, but what about the former? In a language with too few words, the words have to do double and triple duty and acquire multiple meanings and you have to figure out the intended meaning from the context. And if there are too many words, then you have to choose the best word to express what you want, also from the context. But, let’s face it, every language has these issues, and this would be a dull world with no puns or wordplay. Language, by nature is complicated. That’s what we have with the word “trash”.
