What’s so funny about this? This joke is one of those quotes that not only make you laugh but also shake your head in agreement at how true it is. When John Glenn the famous astronaut said it, he was already back from his trip so he could say it in retrospect and make a great joke out of it. But if and when this thought really did occur to him, I don’t think he was laughing. More than likely it could have caused him to piss in his pants, or spacesuit, as he pondered the reality of the idea. Planned obsolescence is an important part of our consumer economy.
