Back up my hard drive? How do I put it in reverse?
What’s so funny about this? I have a feeling that this is probably already an old joke, but what the heck, I’m an old guy, so I’m entitled to tell old jokes. Of course the irony is that it’s an old tech joke that would have made no sense in my younger, pre-computer years. In my youth, a “hard drive” was a difficult trip by car, either because it was long, like driving cross-country, or because it was over rough terrain, like unpaved roads. Driving was ALWAYS about cars. 100 years earlier, none of these car related terms would make any sense; then it was all about horses, I guess. But the computer revolution changed all that and a hard drive became the wiring inside the computer that contained all the memory. “Backing up” to me was like what the old guy in the cartoon is saying about going in reverse.
