What’s so funny about this? I love old time black and white photos from the last century. It sounds weird to say that, since I’m mostly from the last century myself! But the radiator repair shop in the photo accompanying this joke is even before my time. Nevertheless, automobiles have always had radiators because the internal combustion engine needs to be cooled down as it burns fuel. Both the fuel and the friction of the moving parts generate a lot of heat and without water or some “coolant” (cooling liquid) the engine would freeze, not from cold but the parts would lock. In the old days, they cooled engines with water which could either boil over or freeze, depending on the weather and the condition of the engine. Later, they developed antifreeze, the liquid chemical that circulates around the engine. It’s the radiator’s job to cool the heated liquid and then send it out again to do its cooling job.
