When the chips are down the buffalo is empty.

What’s so funny about this? As I was looking for a good photo to use for this joke I kept coming across pictures of potato chips as well as young women in bathing suits. I didn’t really get the connection of the latter two. First of all, let me explain, a buffalo chip is nothing more than a pile of buffalo feces, or to be crude, buffalo shit. It tends to pile up in a kind of a round stack or clump, which is why they’re called “chips”. The potato chip connection comes from “buffalo wings” which are not from flying buffalos but from chicken wings cooked and sold in Buffalo, NY, in a special hot sauce. They’ve become so popular that they’re known by that name throughout the US. More recently, round fried potato slices with cheddar cheese have been served with these wings and thus have come to be called Buffalo chips, as a kind of joke.
