What’s so funny about this? So when you walk into their home and tell them it smells like a brewery, that’s a complement! That’s what people used to say after walking into a room or a house in which there had been a big party the night before, especially at a college fraternity “keger” where large metal barrels of beer called “kegs” were being tapped all night long. It’s not at all surprising that the following morning the stench of stale beer is so dominant. Of course, in the case of this joke, it’s not stale beer but freshly made or brewed beer. When I was a kid there were still many small local brewerys all over the north eastern US. Allentown PA boasted at least two local beers, Newieler and Horlacher. Almost every medium sized city had at least one. But then there was a big contraction in the marketplace and most small labels disappeared and a couple of giants like Budweiser and Miller pretty much took over the market.
