What’s so funny about this? This joke is filled with puns, but unless you know the meaning of proctologist, they are all likely to go over your head. A Proctologist is a doctor who specializes in the lower intestinal region specifically the rectum and anus. As I’ve said many times before, human body parts and functions are one of the most common sources of humor. Internal parts are not as funny as external parts and proctologists deal with disorders of one of our most sensitive areas, the entrance or exit (depending on your point of view) of the large intestine, namely the anus, known vulgarly as the “ass hole”. This term is also an insult that people call each other when they are angry. The anus has an unpleasant smell and has associations with bowel movements as well as anal sex, so it’s a double target of jokes. Medically, there are a number of serious conditions and diseases also associated with this region of the body and so we all (especially as we age) need to get examined there
