BUM STEER
What’s so funny about this? These days, it seems that every large or major event is run by a steering committee. It doesn’t seem to matter what the content, or purpose of the event is. It could be political, religious, entertainment, sports, whatever. I’m reminded of the old movie “Babes in Arms” with Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney where they and a bunch of orphans are desperate for money and Mickey supposedly says “Hey, let’s put on a show!”. Everybody thinks it’s a swell idea and Mickey writes the show and everyone learns the songs and dances and it’s a big hit. They make it look so simple that sometimes Mickey’s phrase is still used today when someone naively proposes a very complex idea as if anyone could do it. Actually, Mickey never said those exact words but the idea is still around. The point is, it’s incredibly complicated to stage a theatrical production, organize a political campaign, raise money for flood relief and all such events and efforts. One person can’t really do it
