BEING THERE

What’s so funny about this? Some people say that just showing up and being there is half the battle. This joke disagrees with that notion. You might be wondering exactly what I’m talking about here. Being where? Showing up for what? Well, that depends; it can be for almost anything. For example, you know I practice Aikido, a martial art. Many times I’ve told new students who were anxious about how often to train or how long it will take to get a black belt, that all they need to do is show up and eventually they will learn it and understand it. It has more to do with overcoming inertia. We all have days when we intend to do something but then postpone it. But this joke takes it beyond just showing up. It says that if all you do is go to church, that is, just show up, then that’s not enough to be a good Christian, or any kind of Christian, for that matter.
