What’s so funny about this? This is the first joke I’ve done in a long time that’s not based on some sort of word play. But as you know, I really love the works and writing of Steven Wright, who IMHO is just the right kind of writer. Yes, you can say that Wright writes right. I’ll let you sort out the spellings. What makes him so funny is his dead pan delivery, that is, the way he tells his jokes with no facial expression. He doesn’t smile, or frown, or scowl or show any emotion at all. So we have only his words to go by and they are usually very ironic, or understated. It’s only when you stop and think about the implications of what he’s said that you realize something very funny has just happened. He frequently points out the illogic of our language, or, as is the case in this joke, certain situations. So here we have a race car that has broken down in the middle of a race.
