BAR HOPPER

A GRASSHOPPER WALKS INTO A BAR. THE BARTENDER SAYS, “WE HAVE A DRINK HERE NAMED AFTER YOU.” THE GRASSHOPPER SAYS, “YOU HAVE A DRINK NAMED BOB?”

What’s so funny about this? At last a joke that doesn’t need much explanation, I think. What you do need to remember is that in jokes, especially in the “X walks into a bar” kind, reality has to take a back seat. Surrealism is pretty much the rule as all kinds of inanimate objects as well as animals of all stripes walk into this Twilight Zone bar. So today, it’s a grasshopper. BTW, the bartender in this joint must be extremely stoic, that is, accepting of everything and everyone who comes into his joint. In this case, rather than asking what the grasshopper wants to drink, the bartender offers an observation. It’s not that he’s surprised to see a giant grasshopper enter the bar; after all, this guy has seen it all. It’s that he thinks it’s cool that it just so happens that there is a drink named after this creature. For your information, a “g
