ASHES TO ASHES
What’s so funny about this? I guess these old Italians were into something. I’ll tell you this much - they were pretty good philosophers. This short little proverb says a great deal if you understand it. It’s really a comment on life and death itself. Shakespeare said all the world’s a stage and we’re only actors who play our parts for a while and then we leave the stage. Same story with the chess pieces, be they kings, pawns, bishops, knights, whatever. They are only temporary roles. While the game is on there are huge distinctions between these roles just as there are with characters in a play. But at the end of the play, at the end of the game, it’s time to take off the masks and we all get back into to same box. Underneath it all, we’re all the same, we’re all one. The bible says ashes to ashes, dust to dust. We start as clay, we end as clay. It’s important to keep this in mind.
