Running from 1978 to 1990 Round Midnight soon established itself as Radio 2's daily arts show - something that is now squeezed into a two-hour slot of Thursday nights. It was, according to Brian Matthew "the one programme I always wanted to do".
In this sequence you'll hear clips from the opening show (then just called The Late Show) on 2 January 1978, 3 April 1980, celebrating 25 years in broadcasting with Tony Barnfield on 26 July 1980, 29 May 1984 where he mentions receiving, and then accidentally smashing, his Sony Award, 4 October 1984 and finally a longer selection from 14 November 1985.
