The 60s in Peru were the melting pot for what later became one of the biggest music revolutions in South America. It was the moment when the sons and daughters of the indian immigrants, who went to Lima looking for a better life, decided to combine elements that nobody dared to combine before. They mixed the Andean folk music of their parents with the tropical cumbia that they heard in all the trendy clubs around Lima, and, finally, they added to it a drop of the psychedelic rock that the aristocratic white people were blasting in their radios at the time. That’s how Chicha music was born. It became the war cry of those who don’t believe in borders, of those who break limits, of those who challenge the status quo.
This is the spirit that we want to celebrate today: the spirit of the fearless mixture of voices, a tropical revolution of unity and love. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Chichadelica.
