Ground Zero was my first mix after spending quite a while away from DJing. It was about picking up where I had left off—reconnecting with old favourite artists, discovering their newer music and working out what had changed while I was away.
The mix begins on the deeper, wonkier side of house with Róisín Murphy’s DJ Koze-produced You Knew, before moving through Koze, Robag Wruhme, Afro and tribal house. From there, the percussion gets heavier as it crosses into tech house, bass house and Dirtybird territory, eventually arriving at much bigger main-room techno from the likes of Space 92, Enrico Sangiuliano, Jay Lumen and Charlotte de Witte.
It is deliberately wide-ranging: an attempt to connect the different strands of house and techno I enjoy rather than remain inside one genre. Looking back, it feels like both a return to DJing and a snapshot of me working out where I wanted to go next.
