I'm gonna change direction on this weekly show for a while.
'Chill out' felt like a genre in itself when the nation was in a post-rave flush of excitement in the 90s/00s. On the one hand it was a zone for experimentation, playing to the altered consciousness, the winding down/opening up/falling apart feeling that is part of the rave experience. On the other hand a load of chilled beats stuff sprung up - which also isn't so bad if you think about how that was an echo of the more weighty work of unique artists like Tricky, Massive Attack, and Dj Shadow.
Of course, a lot of the music people love when they are in their chill out zone wasn't designed for that purpose. Intentionally or not, a lot of the more experimental electronic music was ready made for blissed out ravers.
So there's lots to play! In this mix we go from dub techno to electronica to balearic to ambient.
I had terrific fun piecing this together, hope it does the trick for you.
