Welcome to the prototype of a new radio program titled Tonestrukt Presents … The Counter-Sublime. Tonestrukt is a Los Angeles based record label of new.classical, field.recording and genre-less music. The Counter-Sublime aims to dive into (un)familiar territories of instrumental music, with a focus on shifting narratives, international coverage, and abstractions upon the forms of notated music.
This episode includes chamber music by Cassandra Miller, Nguyễn Thiên Đạo, and Rebecca Saunders; symphonic works by Maestro Carlos Chávez, the 'beyond category' Duke Ellington, and a recalibration of the genre in Yusef Lateef’s Little Symphony; electronic baroque sublimations by Nobukazu Takemura, Serpentwithfeet, and an excerpt from Rashad Becker’s Traditional Music of Notational Species, Vol. 1, among others.
